Your decision making routemap
A ‘route map’ is just a way of understanding when and how decisions need to be made about responding to the coastal changes we are experiencing.
Use the following questions to help develop a route map.
Information sources
- Where do you currently get information about coastal change?
- How does information flow? What information is most urgently needed when it comes to coastal change?
- What information do you wish you had access to?
- What stops you from accessing information you need?
Decision making
- How do things get decided here?
- Who are the key players in getting things done on the ground?
- Who would need to be involved in coastal planning?
- What’s worked well for the community in the past?
- What stops decisions being made, or leading to action?
- How can communities influence broader decisions
Think about
- Formal information sources (Local Authority, SEPA, police, etc)
- Informal sources (neighbours, social media, local groups)
- Trusted voices – who do people really listen to?
- Information gaps - what’s missing?

- Community development plans
- Local Place Plans
- Local Authority Coastal Change Adaptation Plans
- End of lease periods
- Infrastructure renewal plans
- Community transfer of assets, change of land ownership
